Installation of x86 on a USB drive verified 7.3rc2 ROS version on 03.06.2022

Step-by-step guide

  • Download x86 CD image

  • downloaded ISO image and click START


    On Linux, FreeBSD or MacOS systems:
    Warning! Double check correct device address, dd can destroy data irreversibly!
  • Connect USB drive and find it's device address
    • MacOS use

      diskutil list
    • Linux/ FreeBSD

      fdisk -l
  • Write image to disk using dd:

    dd if=<your_downloaded_routeros_ISO> of=<disk_address> bs=1M status=progress oflag=sync


  • After finished, connect your USB to your x86 system and boot the USB.
  • Proceed with the installation process by choosing "i" on your keyboard.
  • After reboot, your will have x86 installed. 


Info
Boot priorities should be changed in your BIOS settings. For this setup, we have used ASUS 0405 UEFI BiosIf RouterOS will be installed to NVMe drive - USB has to be booted in UEFI mode.
